Our physiotherapists study and specialise in the assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal dysfunction. We have a commitment to continuing professional development, which ensures all physiotherapy treatment offered is based on current best evidence of effectiveness.
Problems causing the patient’s symptoms are identified via considered clinical assessment and suitable treatment provided – this may be after surgery, injury or with incidious onsets.
physiotherapy aims to alleviate symptoms by restoring the proper functioning to the body. In the case of permanent disease or injury, the aim is to reduce the impact of any dysfunction.
physiotherapy Treatment options include a wide range of manual physiotherapies which mobilise joints and soft tissues, exercise programs and electrotherapy techniques, tailored to your specific condition.
Do I have to be referred by a doctor?
No, anyone can refer themselves for treatment. The physiotherapist may liaise with your GP/Consultant if necessary.
Check with the insurance company before you attend for the first treatment that you are covered for physiotherapy and bring the relevant details with you. Some require a GP referral in the first instance.
Professional Affiliation
All physiotherapists are members of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and of the Health Professions Council.
Fiona is a member of the Manipulative Association of Chartered physiotherapy, which recognises a standard of excellence in neuromusculoskeletal physiotherapy. Their knowledge and practical skills ensures that all MACP physiotherapists are able to provide an excellent standard of care in examination, treatment and management for people with neuromusculoskeletal problems.
Personal injury
Clients requiring physiotherapy are regularly referred to us by solicitors. Our physiotherapists offer a full medico-legal treatment and reporting service. If you have had a personal injury it helps to commence treatment right away.
Assessment
Before you receive any treatment or advice, one of our physiotherapists will discuss your condition with you and carry out a thorough examination of the area to identify the problem. From there, it is decided whether physiotherapy is appropriate and then a treatment program tailored to your needs is formulated.
It is most important the physiotherapist finds the root cause of your condition. Just treating the current symptoms is useless if the problem is going to recur as soon as the treatment stops. For example this can be old injuries, incorrect training, postural issues, poor muscle control and in extremely rare circumstances, serious pathology eg tumours / fractures.
Occasionally after examination, the physiotherapy specialist may feel investigations are needed to be done, i.e. MRI scans, X-rays, ultrasound scans etc. If this is the case, we can then liaise with your GP and request these to be done.
